Types of Whiskey
the common characteristics of the categories whiskey tends to be put into;

Scotch
Scotch whisky is mainly made from water, yeast and malted barley... They tend to be single malt whiskeys which are produced in a single distillery
Flavour profile: Peaty, smoky to elegant, fruity and sweet from a Speyside, to full-bodied, often spicy or heather-honey sweet highlad blends.

Rye
Rye whiskey tends to be a bold, spicy American or Canadian spirit made with Rye grain, aged in charred new oak barrels. Compared to Bourbon Rye whiskey tends to be more spicy and dry than the sweet and full-bodied pallet of bourbons.
Flavour profile: Defining characteristic is often spiciness creamed by black pepper, cinnamon, clove or nutmeg. Unlike its counterparts, Rye whiskey tends to be dry and crisp, with herbal and earthy notes... and sweet undertones.

Tennessee
This is a straight bourbon-style whiskey produced specifically in Tennessee. Common producers being Jack Daniel's.
Flavour profile:
Often described as a softer, lighter version of bourbon, the charcoal mellowing removes harsher elements , resulting in a smooth finish.

Irish
Distilled and produced exclusively in Ireland, from malted cereals.
Aged in wooden casks for at least 3 years. Often known for being triple distilled, which contributes to a lighter, smoother and more refined style compared to scotch.
Flavour profile: Known for its smooth and approachable pallet, with a flavour range from rich, oily, and spicy to light, fruity and creamy blends.

Bourbon
Bourbon is an American whiskey made from at least 51% corn, aged in new charred-oak containers. Known for their rich and approachable characters.
Flavour profile: Commonly feature sweet, warm notes of caramel, vanilla, oak or brown sugar. Which tend to have a spicy or fruity finsih.

Japanese
Heavily inspired by Scotch, Japanese whiskey is often refined to be more delicate, floral and balanced... but with a focus on meticulous blending and unique maturation in Japanese Mizunara Oak.
Flavour profile: Subtle, smooth and refine. Often fruity, floral or subtle smoky notes.

Liqueurs
Whiskey liqueurs tend to be lower alcohol spirits, which are sweetened blended whiskey with honey, spice, herb, or fruit flavorings. Such as Baileys, Fireball, etc.

Things to consider when ordering your whiskey...
When ordering your whiskey... these are questions to consider

Served...
How did you want your whiskey served... Neat, on the rocks, with a mixer?
Neat being without ice, served in its simple form... alone.
On the rocks, being over ice. Be as specific as you like, you know how you like your whisky.
With a mixer or a dash of water... tell us what you'd like from coke to juice to a splash of water.

price...
With whisky, the prices vary so much... to prevent a nasty surprise we recommend checking the price of your chosen whisky with the bartender on shift.
Even giving us a price range and the type of whisky your after... the bartender on shift can guide you to a suitable whisky.

Cocktail...
We are a cocktail bar, and although we don't have a wide range of whisky cocktails on the menu... the bartenders will go off menu or make changes to meet your preferences.
Whether that's by recreating a favourite of yours, or elevating our whisky cocktails by customising the product used.
